I don’t know whether it’s the seemly long summer we’ve had since the start of lockdown {at the end of March}, that I’ve been really enjoying getting bits done around the house or that September feels like somewhat of a fresh start but I have been so excited to decorate the house this autumn – something I don’t usually do until much closer to Halloween!
It goes without saying that you can’t beat the beautiful colours and freshness of autumn – that crisp chill in the air, cozy jumpers, pumpkin spiced lattes and fluffy blankets – what’s not to love? {Check out my new monthly newsletter for September to find out what I’m loving this month!}
So if you’ve been following me on Instagram you’ll know that I’m desperately trying to simplify our home {and life!} so I knew any decorating I did wasn’t going to be loud or garish. Of course I traipsed Pinterest and YouTube for ideas – you can check out my autumn {decor} Pinterest board and a couple of my favorite fall home decorate with me You Tube videos from Jessica Giffin and Tiffani Beaston.
I then spent some time scouring for items online and visited a couple of stores {namley B&M and TKMaxx} but I found it was Hobbycraft which stocked the majority of the sort of items I was after {plus they have a specific autumn section on their website which was really helpful}. Here’s what I got:
- Mini Mache Pumpkins 4 pack x3
- Pepperberries
- White Washed Willow Wreath 40cm
- Orange Wreath Accessories Set
- Mache Pumpkin 16cm x3
- Ceramic Tall Pumpkin
- Blossom Garland
- Square Wooden Tray
- Mini Glue Gun
- Moss Decoration {couldn’t find this stocked online}
{I also got 2x pumpkin carving sets for the boys to use in October and used some gold, bronze and silver Sharpie pens I already had}.

I started off with the wreath. I had planned to put this up on my door facing outside but I loved it so much I ended up using it on the inside of our front door as a really lovely focal point. I knew I wanted to showcase the willow wreath so I started playing around with laying items from the accessories set over approximately 1/3 of the wreath. The set made it really easy to come up with an attractive design {you could also use a potpourri set which would work just as well – and smell amazing!}

Of course I had my little helper with me! {Closely supervised at all times}

This mini glue gun was perfect for sticking items on securely {although I should have bought more glue sticks!}

I then got to work arranging the mache pumpkins. I pretty much used them as they are as I liked the rustic look of them {although did use my sharpies to add some colour} but you could just as easily spray paint / decorate /decoupage them to your personal taste {something I may do later in the season or another year}. Again I used my glue gun to arrange them into place. I then used a set in the kitchen, for the mantel piece and finally made an arrangement in the square tray I used with the addition of the decorative moss, pepperberries and some left over wreath accessories which can be used on a shelf {high out of reach of little hands}, as a table centre piece oroutside in the porch.

I then made a really simple display on the mantel piece in our living room using the ceramic pumpkin {which I love!}, a set of the mache pumpkins and the blosson garland {to add a bit of colour}.

In the kitchen I again kept things really simple with this chalkboard Pumpkin Spice sign and a set of the mache pumpkins.

I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my early autumn home decor. Nothing fancy but super simple and I love the small splashes of autumn colours around the house. I’m sure I’ll be adding to it in time – and probably adding some real pumpkins too!
What’s your favourite thing about autumn?
